If your child develops PANDAS, start him or her on a dose of antibiotics that is strong enough to deal with the underlying infection.
This may require a few rounds of medication and several blood draws to be sure that the infection has been neutralized.
At the same time, it will be important to start an aggressive treatment program of exposure and response prevention (ERP). Just because the infection is cleared up does not mean that the OCD will be gone, it may be easier to treat, but it can still be there.
Therefore, it will be important to do the therapy until the child’s behavior returns to what it was before the infection.
