What Is the Deepest Hole Ever Dug In the Earth?

Man’s deepest journey to the center of the earth was made by a petroleum company in Texas. The hole was dug in search of oil, but when none was found, the hole was plugged.

However, drillers worked for two years, at a cost of 3 million dollars, to reach a depth of 25,340 feet, or 4.8 miles, with a hole only 3 inches wide.

To better understand how deep that hole really was, try to imagine that 20 Empire State Buildings, piled one on top of the other, could be lowered into that hole!

I work in the oilfields of Texas. I am currently on a well that is 19,246 ft deep. I work on holes as deep as 27,000 feet on a regular basis.
