When Did Vertebrates First Appear On Earth?

The first vertebrates, or animals with internal skeletons, developed in the water on earth about 500 million years ago.

Probably one of the earliest life forms with an internal skeleton most closely resembled echinoderms, which include starfish and sea urchins.

Later, through many evolutionary changes, they grew fins and tails and evolved into fish.
