Howard Hughes may be one of the most famous people to have had OCD. The multimillionaire movie producer and aviation expert was said to sort his peas by size before he would eat them, and he had an air filtration system built into the trunk of his car so that he would not have to breathe unclean air. Biographers have also said that he was consumed with the minor details of things, often delaying projects and movies until they were “just right.” Toward the end of his life, he isolated himself from people because of his fears of contamination.
Mark Summers, who once hosted Double Dare on Nickelodeon, has written a book about his struggles with OCD. He described in an interview how he would get on the floor with a comb to make all of the fibers on the carpet go a certain way.
Howie Mandel, host of Deal or No Deal, has talked about his OCD in several interviews. One of his fears is illness: If a family member gets ill, he moves into the other of two homes he has on his property. Also notice that he never shakes hands on Deal or No Deal, he only touches fists. He does this so that he does not have to deal with any obsessions about his hands being dirty while taping the show.
