Yes. NAMI, the largest advocacy group for people with mental illnesses and their families, has over 1200 affiliates in all fifty states, as well as Puerto Rico and DC (http://www.nami.org/).
They offer excellent and state-of-the-art courses, some tailored for families and others geared toward consumers of mental health services. They can also assist in tracking down area mental health providers and they offer an Information Helpline, 1-800-950-NAMI (6264), Monday through Friday, 10 am to 6 pm, Eastern Time. To find a group near you, either call or visit their website.
In addition to the facilitated support offered by NAMI, there are other local grassroots support groups. Also, some inpatient and outpatient programs offer family psycho education and support groups as a part of their overall treatment.
