Can I still qualify for a mortgage if you still have student loans to pay back?

July 1, 2014 by Karen Hill | Filed Under: Finance

You will probably qualify as long as you have a history of making the payments on those student loans on time and the other information in your credit report meets the lender’s standards.

Lenders will look at your debt-to-income ratio, but will not prevent you from getting a mortgage merely because you have student loans that you are currently paying back. You probably will have problems in obtaining a mortgage if you have defaulted on your student loans or any other loan obligation.
