Finding a meteorite is pretty rare.
Here are some things to look for before taking it to a museum to get it checked out.
Does the rock have a sooty-looking brown, black, or orange exterior?
Does it seem denser or heavier than most rocks?
Does it seem to be completely or partly metallic?
Will a magnet stick to it?
Does it look different from other rocks in the area?
Does it have a holey texture like Swiss cheese?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you might have a meteorite.
