Cowslips, a type of primrose, are so called because they are especially adept at growing in the meadow muffins that cows leave behind.
Cowbirds, a small blackbird, used to ride on the backs of American bison and eat the bugs they stirred up while roaming the plains of America.
However, once the buffaloes were all but killed off, the birds easily switched their allegiance and began riding on the backs of cows.
The birds get a ride, and they eat the flies that bedevil the cows, so everyone’s happy.
The cowslips are happy, too.
Life is good.
