In emergency situations it’s important to get help. Emergency rooms and crisis centers will typically see people regardless of the ability to pay. This doesn’t mean that you won’t get billed after the fact, though.
If you, or a family member, are admitted to a hospital or require emergency services, you will be billed. It’s critically important to contact the hospital/emergency room social worker or patient accounts manager to identify your financial situation up front. This may not only save you unnecessary stress down the line, such as being referred to a collection agency, but it can also get the ball rolling with referrals to appropriate programs that can help out with the assistance you’ll need.
