Panic disorder is a condition in which someone experiences multiple panic attacks in the course of a week. In some cases this progresses to multiple attacks on a daily basis. Panic disorder can occur with a related condition called agoraphobia (fear of leaving the home).
Some people with panic disorder can become so immobilized by anxiety and fear of having attacks in a public place that they will stop leaving the home entirely. The diagnosis of panic disorder will be used if the person does not also meet criteria for one of the other anxiety disorders, such OCD or PTSD.
If a person has bipolar disorder and also meets the criteria for panic disorder she will be given both diagnoses.
