The oldest living tree is a bristlecone pine in the Great Basin area of the United States, which stretches from Colorado to California.
In recent times, one of these trees, named Prometheus, was dated at 4,950 years old.
Unfortunately, a graduate student accidentally killed it while performing date studies on it.
Another bristlecone pine, named Methuselah, has been dated at 4,766 years old and is now considered the oldest tree.
We hope that graduate students are keeping away from it.
