Nothing. In fact, a person who at one time had poor credit could have his or her credit rating restored by obtaining a subprime mortgage and diligently making full payments. However, the increase in the subprime lending also gave rise to an increase in repossessions and predatory lending.
While many of those writing subprime mortgages were proper, ethical lenders, a small group of these lenders took advantage of the subprime borrower. These unethical lenders perpetrated scams, which led to people losing their homes, their life savings, their self-esteem, and their ability to ever become a homeowner again.
