The gigantic ground sloth, the Mylodon, was very much alive and real and living alongside people during the Pleistocene period, or Ice Age, some 10,000 years ago.
It only became extinct, most believe, as recently as 5,000 years ago.
Unlike its modern day counterpart, it had no tail, but other than being the size of an elephant, it was very similar.
Mylodon weighed about 440 pounds and stood about 10 feet tall when raised up on its hind legs.
Well preserved samples of Mylodon remains have been discovered in the Cueva del Milodón site in Patagonia, Chile.
