You may feel the need to call a company at some point to inquire about the gluten-free status of one of their products. There are cases in which you should call just to verify the gluten-free nature of the product, and there are times when you must call before you ingest something. As you journey through your gluten-free life, you may want to call because:
Case #1: You find a product that appears to be gluten-free by the nature of the ingredients they use, but nowhere on the package can you find a gluten-free designation. In this case, you may want to call to ask them about their manufacturing processes. Does this product share the same production lines with wheat? Do they test for gluten, and if so, what are their ppm results? Remember, not all gluten-free products will be labeled gluten-free because it’s up to the manufacturer to do so.
Case #2: If you tried a product you believed to be safe and you did not feel well after eating it with symptoms that mimicked a reaction to gluten, you should consider calling to ask about their manufacturing process or see if you missed any hidden gluten. This can help determine if you will purchase the product again or not.
