Two groups of note when looking for environmentally conscious building materials and products are:
1. The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) at www.usgbc.org is an organization of leaders from the vast building industry that actively promotes building green. It looks at the business side of going green, analyzing not only the environmental aspect of the item but also the use in a profitable construction environment. The USGBC has introduced the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system, which certifies products as being green. USGBC has seventyfive regional chapters throughout the United States. For more information, contact the chapter near you.
2. Global Green USA is part of the Green Cross International group that is dedicated to environmentally conscious living. Its website at www.globalgreen.org not only addresses green building, but it also has an extensive library of information about what can be done to make existing homes more environmentally conscious. One of the best features of this site is the room-by-room diagram of what can be done during remodeling to make that area of your home green. The suggestions are practical and easy to understand.
