Orville Redenbacher was a real person, and was born in 1907 on a farm in Indiana.
He spent his spare time growing and selling popping corn before going to college.
After earning his degree in agromony, or crop production at Purdue, he and his partner, Charlie Bowman, developed their revolutionary new popcorn hybrid.
A better popcorn was the result, and a bow tied pop culture icon was born.
Although the company Redenbacher started was eventually bought out by Hunt-Wesson in 1976, he stayed on as their spokesperson for the popcorn brand that bore his name.
Orville Redenbacher passed away in 1995 at 88 years old.
