Marilyn Monroe standing on the breezy subway grate in Some Like It Hot is an unforgettable image.
Marilyn Monroe and Tom Ewell come out of a movie theater playing The Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Monroe steps on a grate and a subway rumbles down below. Suddenly a blast of air lifts her skirt up, exposing her thighs.
“Ooh, do you feel the breeze from the subway?” she says, smiling. “Isn’t it delicious?”
The theater used to be the Translux before it was torn down for an office building, but the subway grate at Lexington Avenue and Fifty-fifth Street is still there.
