Dr. William Moulton Marston, who also invented the systolic blood pressure test and the lie detector, was the creator of the comic strip Wonder Woman.
During the course of his experiments with the lie detector, he became convinced that women were more tireless and honest than men.
Seeing how few strong female models there were for young girls, he came up with Wonder Woman to fill that void.
Marston’s wife Elizabeth Holloway Marston and Olive Byrne, served as inspiration for the character and greatly influenced her creation.
Dr. William Moulton Marston was inducted into the Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2006.
