Albert Einstein was stingy about giving his autograph out.
As a matter of fact, he was known for charging people for them.
He would ask for a dollar before signing anything to anyone.
He gave the dollars to charity, but people still weren’t comfortable asking, so there aren’t many signatures around today.
There was one exception to Einstein’s rule.
Charlie Chaplin once commented about Einstein’s fame, “I’m famous because everyone can relate to what I do, but you are famous even though no one understands what you do.”
When Einstein met Chaplin, he eagerly gave him an autographed photo for free.
