Champagne does indeed get you drunk faster than non-bubbly wine.
And there are two reasons for it, not even factoring in the fact that many people think it tastes better and therefore drink more of it.
The first is reason is chemical.
The carbon dioxide in the bubbles of sparkling wine moves alcohol more quickly into the bloodstream.
The second reason is contextual.
People don’t usually drink champagne unless they’re celebrating something, so the giddiness of the moment can have them half-drunk even without the direct effects of the alcohol.
