It’s a common misconception, but bags of white processed cocaine were not dumped into Coca-Cola.
However, coca leaves were deliberately added to the recipe to give Coke that natural little cocaine punch.
Coke today even registers traces of cocaine, because it still contains coca leaves for flavoring.
The cocaine is removed and given to pharmaceutical companies for making anesthetics. But back in the good ol’ days, Coca-Cola was a real party drink.
Originally, it not only had cocaine in it; it was also made with wine.
But because teetotalers wouldn’t tolerate the wine, Coke’s creator, John Pemberton, replaced it with kola nuts, which gave the drink a caffeine kick instead.
